SOGON means Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria.

SOGON was formed in April 1965.

SOGON was registered with CAC as an NGO in 1999

Mission of SOGON is that it is dedicated to the Improvement of women,s health and rights and the reduction of Maternal and newborn mortality,as well as advancing the science and practice of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Nigeria.
Pursues is mission through advocacy,Programmatic activities and capacity strengthening of members and partners

The objects of SOGON shall be

  1. To provide efficient,transparent and accountable organizational platform for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Nigeria.
  2. To promote,develop and implement continuing professional development (CPD) courses as an accredited provider of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
  3. To support pre service institutions in the revision of curricula to ensure inclusion of evidence based interventions as well as competency based training for Sexual and Reproductive health.
  4. To be the "Voice of Women's Health etc etc.

Any medical doctor who has completed a post graduate training in Gynaecology and Obstetrics and registered by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as a Specialist is eligible for full membership. Next step is to fill a membership application form,Pay the appropriate fees,approval by the SOGON Executive Council and get inducted at an Annual General conference

The Responsibilities,rights and benefits of full members incude

  1. Abide by SOGON constitution and adhere to the code of ethics in medical practice
  2. Promote the objectives of SOGON.
  3. Elect and be elected as an executive member of SOGON.
  4. Participate in all SOGON activities.
  5. Prompt payment of annual subscription fees and levies.
  6. Enjoy all benefits and privileges accorded to members of SOGON.
  7. Entitled to free soft or hard copy of SOGON publications such as Tropical journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (TJOG),Newsletters,Practice guidelines and updates.
  8. Partake in the welfare scheme for members in relation to death and disability to be determined by SOGON council and General assembly.
